    Phenix Impact Investing Academy is a series of executive educational courses focusing on the needs of institutional investors.

    ​​The academy offers deep-dive sessions covering the most current topics in impact investing with practical tools, best-in-class case studies with the support of academic institutions and industry experts. ​​

    The Impact Investing Academy is curated by Phenix Capital Group, utilising the broad knowledge in impact investing aggregated since 2012. The Academy offers concrete tools to institutional investors, to tackle their current challenges whether they are beginners or advanced impact allocators. ​​

    The Academy supports investors’ impact journey to define, implement, integrate and innovate their impact approach.​​​

    COURSE I

    IMPACT INVESTING FOUNDATIONS FOR INSTITUTIONAL INVESTORS

    INVESTING WITH YOUR VALUES TO CREATE POSITIVE CHANGE

    Through this course, impact professional heard from IMM experts and fiduciary intermediaries on how they have designed the modern Impact portfolio around the values and financial needs of their clients. 

     

    This course allowed them to walk away with a roadmap for discovery, a clear understanding of how to invest with values for change, and how to achieve financial and societal goals. 

     

    Learning Outcomes and key takeaways: 

    Understand the importance of a Theory of Change (ToC) and its relation to forming a strong impact investment thesis.
    Identify the key components of a ToC and start to build your own.
    Be able to evaluate the logic within a potential investees’ ToC for the purpose of investment decision-making.
    Develop a Financial-first Impact Investing method for actively seeking to create positive change on the planet and in society while achieving financial returns.
    Narrow down the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and targets to the ones that are most important and best reflect your values, and articulate your organisation's mission.
    Understand the Spectrum of Capital and how it applies to your organisation.
    Understand the approaches and innovations within the fields of values-aligned, mission-driven, and faith-based investment markets.
    Understand portfolio construction that reflects your values and fulfil the demands of your Impact mandate while maintaining financial returns.
    Master clear communication tactics for communicating values with fiduciary intermediaries and ensure your portfolio remains values-aligned.

     

    WHO CAN ATTEND:

    This executive-level course is designed for the decision-makers of institutional organisations, with the content focused on C-Suite, Board Members, Portfolio Managers and ESG/Impact Investing officers of organisations such as pension funds, fiduciary managers, insurance companies, family offices, banks, sovereign wealth funds, foundations and endowments, development finance institutions, faith-based organisations.

    This course offers LIMITED SEATS and is reserved ONLY FOR INSTITUTIONAL INVESTORS & ASSET OWNERS.

    The course consisted of 3 modules of 3 hours each on-site interactive training, including breakfast.

    Module 1

    THE GOLDEN THREAD: THEORY OF CHANGE (TOC)

     

    In this module, we explored how Impact Investors express their worldview and articulate how they plan for system change via a Theory of Change (ToC). Moreover, we explored the roots of the logic model and its importance in impact investing. We discussed the intricacies of ToC design and interpretation, and how it informs investment decision-making. We delved into the golden thread that runs between the logic of the ToC and the formation of investment thesis, and onward into how to weave it into an investment strategy. Participants learned how to extract and build on the essential information it provides, whether its for constructing/improving their own ToC or interpreting one they receive from a potential investee.

    Module 2

    VALUES MAPPING

     

    This module was designed to help actively seek to create positive change on the planet and in society while achieving financial returns for a financial-first impact. We explored how to develop a method for values mapping, how to narrow down the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and set targets to the ones that are most important to the participants and their organization. We discussed the Spectrum of Capital, values-alignment, mission-driven mandates, and innovations in faith-based investing. We also addressed how to articulate their organisation's mission and translate their values into investment action.

    PORTFOLIO ALIGNMENT

     

    In this module, we explore how to ensure that your portfolio reflects your values and fulfils the demands of your impact mandate while maintaining financial rigour. We discuss how to position the discussion, open up the conversation, and help your clients invest with their values in mind. We also provide clear communication tactics for asset owners and discuss how to rectify misalignments and put measures in place to ensure that your portfolio remains values-aligned.

    At the end of each course, a certificate of completion is issued to participants upon successfully participating and applying knowledge within the workshop environment. ​

    CFA Institute credits

    CFA Institute members will be able to claim the Professional Learning(PL) credits earned from external sources. Completing a course of 3 modules would account for 12 PL credits.

Expert and researcher in values-based portfolio alignment and gender-lens investing. Master’s degree in Theological Studies (Ethics and World Religions) from Harvard University.
